Instructors

 

All instructors and staff members have been selected because of their commitment to the Lord, heart of excellence displayed through their special abilities, and their dedication to the vision of Spirit Wings.

 

Anica C. Scott-Garrell (Boston, MA) studied at the Boston Ballet School for eight years. She later trained with the Boston Conservatory and Jeannette Neill Dance Studio. Upon graduating with honors from the Ailey/ Fordham BFA program in 2005, Anica toured nationally with Ailey II. In 2007, Ms. Scott- Garrell performed in the Cirque du Soleil show ‘Le Reve’ at the Wynn hotel in Las Vegas. She has had the opportunity to work with notable artists and choreographers such as Dwight Rhoden, Ronald K. Brown, Nathan Trice, Jennifer Muller, Matthew Neff and Tricia Brouk. She has held apprenticeships with the Boston Dance Collective, as well as, Complexions Contemporary Dance Company. She is an instructor at the Boden Center for the Performing Arts in New York. She has been a member of Spirit Wings Dance Company for the past year!

 

Elysha Johnson (Columbia, Maryland) is a graduate from Howard High School in Ellicott City, MD. She was the President and one of the founding members of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) - Howard High Chapter and a member of the National Honor Society. Elysha has a passion for dance and has been dancing since she was three years old. She lives to change lives through this art form. She have studied ballet, modern, tap, lyrical, and liturgical dance with Angelic Steps Dance Ministry, Dance Foundations, Baltimore Dance Tech, and Spirit Wings Dance Company, and has enjoyed every challenge each style has presented. She is a member of Celebration Church, Columbia and is an active volunteer in Baltimore City and Columbia. She is an entrepreneur and the owner of A Taste of Heaven, which was started when she was 10 years old. She is an award winning cake decorator and has made an array of desserts for The Horizon Foundation Connections, Celebration Church Bible Training Institute, social activist Dorothy Height, along with many others. In the fall of 2010, Elysha will continue her education at Palm Beach Atlantic University, majoring in Dance and Entrepreneurial Management.

 

Zenas Tobi Okanlawon (Bowie, MD) is a young woman of virtue who strives towards excellence in the art of dance technically and also through her worship. She attended Thomas G. Pullen Middle School as a dance major and graduated from Bowie High School in June 2009. She is currently studying in Towson University's Department of Dance. She has been dancing with Spirit Wings since the age of 9 and has grown not only as a dancer but a gifted leader.
 

 

Danielle Stradford (Fort Washington, MD) started dancing at the age of 9 and became connected to Spirit Wings at the age of 12. Given the opportunity to travel nationally and internationally with Spirit Wings Dance Company, Ms. Stradford has helped to impart excellence through movement in individuals as well as dance ministries. Spirit Wings has helped nurture her passion for dance and has given her a platform to develop through teaching as well as choreographically. Ms. Stradford has participated in numerous dance workshops across the country focusing in ballet and contemporary movement as well as dance instruction through the dance department at Towson University. Being able to worship synonymously with proficient technique is of utmost importance to Ms. Stradford. A recent graduate of Towson University, she is excited to now be on staff at Spirit Wings and is committed to the growth and development of others.
